Do not leave the Dominican Republic without packing all of your local souvenirs!
- Rum: Rum is extremely inexpensive in this country. Take home your legal amount of any one of the many types of rum offered to you. The top three brands produced in the Dominican Republic are Bermudez, Brugal and Barcelo.
- Vanilla: Vanilla, used for cooking, is also inexpensive and can be purchased in many of the boutiques in town or at your hotel.
- Amber: Amber, a fossil resin, is considered a gem formed from the sap that comes from trees when it dries up and hardens. It comes in a variety of colors and the Dominican Amber has a higher concentration of fossils and insects then anywhere else in the world.
- Carnival Masks and Paintings: Elaborate papier-mâché masks that are worn by Dominicans during their festivals and carnivals as well as their paintings that depict their times of the Tainos Indians.
- Mamajuana: A blend of spices, leaves, honey, and different alcohols such as wine and rum. Many Dominicans believe its effect is aphrodisiac.
- Cigars: Even Cubans have an affinity to Dominican cigars. Some of the local brands are Leon Jimenez and Montecristo.
- Coffee: Enjoy the hand picked beans of the Dominican Republic. Normally processed within a 24-hour period to ensure freshness in every bag.
