Puerto Plata Local Attractions
Many visit the city to see the historic Fort of San Felipe, the Victorian gingerbread-like homes from the late 1800's. There is a 5 km boardwalk, or Malecón, lined with restaurants, where you can take a walk, bicycle ride and enjoy a spectacular view of the Atlantic Ocean. Some other attractions include the Amber Gallery, where you can learn all about the Amber stone; the Brugal Rum Distillery, where they offer guided tours of how their rum is bottled; Central and Independence Parks, where you can sit under the shade of trees; and Mount Isabel de Torres, the mountain located just behind Puerto Plata. Travel the cable car to the top of the mountain and enjoy spectacular views of the city. Once at the top, you will find the statue of Christ the Redeemer and some beautiful botanical gardens.
