Samana

Samana

Description

The peninsula and Bay of Samana is regarded as one of the most important geographical enclaves across the Dominican Republic. With its extraordinary diversity of paradisiacal beaches, lakes, waterfalls, small islands, cays and beautiful marine landscapes along with the largest combination of sites and nature reserves across the island. Some areas, Los Haitises National Park for example, have already been declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

Samana is located in the extreme northeast of the Dominican Republic, between mountains and ridges, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean, in the midst of an exceptional variety of hills and fabulous beaches.

With an average temperature of 25.9 Celsius and a pleasant tropical climate year round, which is always accompanied by rain or downpours, which definitely help to maintain the exuberant vegetation that covers the entire peninsula, the Samana region is divided into the following municipalities: Santa Barbara de Samana, which is the capital of the province, Las Terrenas, and Sanchez and the districts of Arroyo Barril, El Limon and Las Galeras.

With an estimated population of approximately 92,000, Samana is now regarded as the most promising tourist destination in the country.
